AP Calculus is a demanding and time consuming course with a very comprehensive and rigorous curriculum mandated by the College Board. This class has as its sole purpose the preparation for the AP Calculus AB Exam on May 9, 2017. In addition to learning the calculus, students will be challenged daily to refine and perfect their algebraic skills. Students will also incorporate technology on a daily basis to make sure the students are well rounded in their mathematical skills. Unfortunately, not all students will master enough skills to pass the AP Exam, but they will have a solid base of calculus knowledge to help them further their education in college.
AP Calculus AB is roughly equivalent to a first semester college calculus course devoted to topics in differential and integral calculus. The AP course covers topics in these areas, including concepts and skills of limits, derivatives, definite integrals, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. You’ll learn how to approach calculus concepts and problems when they are represented graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally, and how to make connections amongst these representations. You will learn how to use technology to help solve problems, experiment, interpret results, and support conclusions.
