Eradicating Bacteria
The purpose of this project was to determine if using an ultraviolet light is a viable source of water purification. To conduct the experiment, a sample of water from each of four sources was collected and exposed to ultraviolet radiation for two and one-half minutes. These became the experimental groups in our experiment. Cultures of the original water samples, the control groups, and of the experimental samples were then prepared. The results of this experiment showed a reduction in bacteria colonies of the experimental groups close to 100%. The result of the experiment showed that the exposure to ultraviolet light had a direct relation to the drop in bacteria colonies.
